Ashanti Shequoiya Doug, called Ashanti was born on October 13 1981 on the 13th of October, 1980 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is an American songwriter, singer and actor. Ashanti began her professional career as a teenager and later signed to Murder Inc. Records by 2002. At the time she appeared in the Fat Joe's What's Luv? Also, she was featured on Fat Joe's song What's the Luv? She became the first female artist to take the top two spots on Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States with Foolish at the top spot and What's Luv? What's Luv? Tina Douglas, her mother, is a retired dance instructor. Ken-Kaide Douglas is her father. Kenashia Shia is the younger brother. Douglas named her Ashanti to honor Ghana's Ashanti Empire in which women held power and had the power to influence. Douglas wanted Ashantis to be a part of this model. James was her great-grandfather. He worked as an advocate for civil rights alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. The Ashanti's mom was able to spot the talent of her daughter when she heard her sing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti appeared as a child as an extra in Spike's Malcolm X at the age of 22 in 1992 and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? In addition, she appeared in a variety of music videos, like K.R.S. Act One's MCs Don't You Know, or 8-Off Ghetto Girls. Ashanti was wooed and signed by a variety of record labels, including Bad Boy. She also was a guest in music videos. But she did sing in and around New York and began hanging around at The Murder Inc. recording studio in hopes of securing a big break. Ashanti first appeared as the background singer for Big Pun on the song "How We Roll". Ashanti sang as well on the track of Fat Joe, What's Luv? Ja Rule's "Always on Time" as well as Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" were also featured. On her first song, Foolish The song is a cover of DeBarge's Me which was released in 1983 is sampled. Ashanti dropped her self-titled debut album in 2002, through Irv Goti's Murder Inc. label. The Declaration her fourth studio album, was released on June 3, 2008. The 16th of October Hey Baby (After the Club) was released to radio and digital outlets. She was in the film Christmas in the City and appeared as Latasha the character Montclair from Army Wives. The song she sang Rock wit U was sampled by British rapper Aitch to accompany his track Baby on the 10th of March 2022.
